Mr. Zabik is the Managing Partner of StoneBeck Capital LLC, a high-yield debt advisory business that controls the General Partner and Manager. Mr. Zabik will serve as the Portfolio Manager of the Fund. Mr. Zabik has over 30 years of experience in the commercial real estate investment and debt capital markets sectors, focused on sourcing, investment analysis and management of opportunistic, high-yield, and value-add real estate debt products. Mr. Zabik’s CRE debt transaction experience has spanned both the United States and Europe. His track record consists of over $4.5 billion of investments in over 167 separate transactions secured by all commercial real estate property types.
In 2010, he founded and co-sponsored WestRiver Real Estate Finance Fund (MM), L.P., a $188 million institutional CRE debt fund, the investment period of which concluded in February. Mr. Zabik will continue to serve in his roles as Portfolio Manager, co-owner of the General Partner and Member of the Investment Committee for the WestRiver fund.
Prior to WestRiver, Mr. Zabik was Senior Managing Director and Head of High Yield Real Estate at GSC Group where he was responsible for forming and managing the high-yield real estate business. He began his private equity investment career as a Managing Director and senior member of the BlackRock, Inc. Real Estate Debt Group, where he served as a member of the Investment Committee and Investment Strategy Group. During his BlackRock tenure, he was responsible for the development and growth of the high-yield commercial real estate debt business where he originated and managed approximately $4 billion of investments including bridge loans, mezzanine loans, B-notes and preferred equity for all high- yield commercial debt vehicles, including separate accounts for GM Pension and Shinsei Bank as well as a public REIT. Mr. Zabik co-founded and raised over $650 million of institutional commitments for Carbon Capital, Inc., the firm’s first private equity mezzanine debt fund and its successor fund, Carbon Capital II.
Prior to BlackRock, Mr. Zabik’s commercial real estate experience included serving as advisor and underwriter on over $15 billion of performing and non-performing commercial mortgage securitization transactions for the RTC and as a senior member of the Structured Finance Group at Fitch Investors Service, Inc.
Mr. Zabik is a member of the Urban Land Institute, Pension Real Estate Association and the Real Estate Lenders Association. Mr. Zabik received a B.A. degree from Boston University and an M.B.A. in Finance from Babson College.
